Who would have thought that one day the words “smartphones” and “garage door” would be used together? The truth is, people want better access to their home. Gone are the days of fumbling for keys or dealing with a sticking lock, or even replacing batteries on garage door remotes, Say hello to being able to unlock a door from your smartphone!
Most garage door opener manufacturers now offer some sort of “wi-fi” enabled garage door openers. The most known and trusted at this time is Chamberlain Liftmaster with their “MyQ” wi-fi enabled garage door openers. Your garage door opener can now connect wirelessly into your home network, and you can use your smartphone to open and close your garage door, as well as monitor its use. What you do need to know if you are in the market for one, is to make sure that the “internet gateway” device is included in the sale. This device will plug into your wi-fi via an ethernet chord, and your phone will connect to the gateway via a downloaded app on your phone. Some garage door openers include this device, on others you will need to purchase it separately.
